Rounders is one of the best and the most popular film. This movie has a separate fanbase among the poker players. The movie was released in 1998, starring Matt Damon, Edward Norton, John Malkovich, and Gretchen Mol.

In this movie, Mike doesn't have good knowledge of bankrolls, and while playing poker game, he loses his entire winnings in underground high stakes against Malkovich. After that, Mike promises his girlfriend that he will play poker for the best, but he again joins the tables when his friend needs his help. The movie is worth watching as this movie focuses not only on poker games but also on friendship, loyalty, and most importantly, believing in yourself.

2) Molly's Game

This is one of the latest poker movie released in the year 2017. The film is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, "the Poker Queen" who hosts the private high-stakes Hollywood Poker games featuring some of the biggest Hollywood celebrities, wealthy businessmen, and professional players. The starring in this movie was done by Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, and Kevin Costner. In this movie, they have shown how Bloom's life was as an aspiring Olympic-class skier to the time she started organizing illegal poker games. Some scenes are quite exaggerated but the movie is still a worth watch. The movie was also nominated for several awards and is one of the best-received poker films.

3) The Cincinnati Kid

The movie is one of the oldest movie that portrayed poker game even before WSOP.
The movie was released in 1965, in which starring actors were Steve McQueen and Edward G. Robinson. The film is based on the story of a young kid who sets out on his way to prove that he is the best poker player. He finished his last match with Lancey Howard (Robinson). The movie focuses on five-card stud, style of poker variant.


The movie actually takes place in 1930s New Orleans. Also, writing is quite good and everything in this movie including climax makes the movie worth watching.

 

4) High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story

The movie was released in the year 2003 starring The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli, who has done the perfect role of Stu Ungar. Stu Ungar was the most famous poker player. He died at the age of 45 but till that age, he won 5 WSOP Bracelets. He was a sharp and aggressive poker player. Stu Ungar's life teaches us so many things like how he started his career and how his demons bring the end to his life. Everything is worth learning. Basically, the movie shows how a son of a bookie raised in New York gets to big winnings in Sin City followed by a sad story of drug consumption leading to his sad demise.


5) Maverick

The movie is quite different from the rest of other movies. The movie consists of action and comedy. The movie was released in the year 1994 starring Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and James Garner who did amazing, entertaining, and comedy sub-plots. Maverick wants to enter the world of poker tournaments but needs cash to do so. He faced many problems on the way of making winnings. The film can be a good choice to watch on a Sunday afternoon as the film is full of humor. The film maintains a great balance between poker and humor.
